United Nations Human Rights

GLOBAL PARTNER

United Nations Human Rights is the global partner of the Right Here, Right Now Global Climate Alliance.  It represents the world’s commitment to the promotion, protection, and realization of the full range of human rights and fundamental freedoms set out in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Through the voice and the work of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, and a staff of 1,971 in 88 countries, the Office aims to make human rights a reality in the lives of people everywhere.

Fighting climate change is at the very heart of their mandate. Climate change already negatively affects the human rights of millions of people around the world – human rights such as those to food, water, housing, health, decent work, development and even life itself. Climate change is not just an environmental issue – it is a human rights crisis bearing down hardest on the poor and marginalized.

l

“Whenever I visit places affected by the climate crisis, it’s impossible not to notice how women, children, minorities and the marginalized are disproportionately suffering. This fact is difficult to adequately describe in words. Yet, photographers are often uniquely able to capture this reality through their lenses. This year Photography 4 Humanity, supported by United Nations Human Rights called on photographers from around the world to capture the lives of people affected by the climate emergency. These images depict climate change as a human rights crisis, and call on all of us to get involved and take a stand for human rights.”

"UN Human Rights is proud to be a Global Partner of the Right Here, Right Now Global Climate Alliance – a human rights initiative committed to promoting, protecting, and advancing the rights of people around the world suffering from the devastating effects of climate change."
